Development Application for Helipad Approved

25 July 2016

The development application for a helipad site in the George Road Industrial Park was approved by Port Stephens Council in June. The application consisted of a helipad and associated hangar for non-recreational, private use.

EPS completed the Statement of Environmental Effects and undertook the development application for the project. EPS were in close consultation with the Department of Defence to ensure that the Military Airspace over Port Stephens could be safely navigated. In addition, the issue of potential noise generation impacting neighbouring residents was thoroughly considered. Noise generated by arrival and departure of the aircraft was monitored and appropriate routes were designed to minimise potential impacts to the community.

Further, the change of use from a concrete batching plant to a helipad site demonstrated an overall improved environmental outcome for the adjoining wetlands which were at risk of contamination from the previous use. The project proved to be a unique and exciting development for the EPS planning team.
